“Humility, Confession and Mercy”

Humble yourself under the mighty power of God and at just the right time He will lift you up. This is our theme verse for 2026 at Antioch. Humility is not a gift it is choice we need to make personally. Jesus finished the work and gives us all an invitation to come to Him.

We must be willing to humble ourselves and confess we are lost without Jesus. We must believe Jesus is the ONLY Way, Truth and Life! In today’s scripture the writer of Proverbs is teaching about the benefits of doing what is right and the willingness to confess when we don’t.

Proverbs 28:12-14

When the godly succeed, everyone is glad. When the wicked take charge, people go into hiding. 13 People who conceal their sins will not prosper, but if they confess and turn from them, they will receive mercy. 14 Blessed are those who fear to do wrong, but the stubborn are headed for serious trouble.

If you are following along our monthly scripture writing, you will quickly see I added verses 12 and 14. I think they help to support verse 13 and will give us a better understanding.

The Book of Proverbs is a book of principles and lessons. The statements made by the writer are not necessarily absolute truths. When we read verse 12, “when the godly succeed everyone is glad.” We all know this is not always true but as a general rule it is. When we do what is right it will generally produce joy and blessings. In verse 13 we read, “people who conceal their sin will not prosper.” The scripture teaches us that our sin will be exposed at some point. Sin is never going to benefit us in the long term. Yes, it might be beneficial at the time but sooner or later the consequences will come. But notice the blessings for those who are willing to confess and turn from their sin, they will receive mercy! I love this for the fact that the writer is acknowledging we will all mess up. But if we are willing to confess and turn from our sin, we serve a merciful God who is willing to forgive us and cleanse us from ALL unrighteousness! God will bless those who fear to do wrong but the stubborn are headed for trouble.

When I read verse 14 I was reminded of our theme verse about humility. Stubbornness can be the opposite of humility. Our unwillingness to change or to turn from doing what is wrong. I believe this is when Jesus assures us that the Lord will humble the proud!

My friends, we all have the opportunity at this moment to evauate our decisions, behaviors and our lives. Are you choosing to do what is right in the eyes of God? Are you concealing any sins that you need to confess? It is time to humble ourselves, confess our sins and experience the incredible mercy of our God! Let us pray for one another as we diligently seek the Lord with all of our hearts!!
