“You have been given Power”
Let me begin by asking, Do you know for certain if you were to die today you would spend eternity with Jesus in Heaven? Understand this is a simple yes or no question. You should not even have to think about the answer. The Apostle John tells us, these things I write to you (God’s truth) so that you will KNOW you have eternal life! If you have any doubts do not continue reading! MESSAGE ME, PLEASE!! You will never have joy, peace or courage until you know for an absolute fact you are saved and going to Heaven!
Okay, now we have cleared up any doubts. In today’s scripture Jesus assures every follower that they have been given power! As I write these words I am reminded of the words spoken to Spiderman by Uncle Ben, “With great power comes great responsibility.” This is really just a quote from Jesus, take a look!
Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Jesus has been crucified, the veil on the temple has been torn from top to bottom, giving every believer access into the throne room of God. Jesus was buried for three days and on that third day He rose from the dead just as He said He would. During Jesus’s death on the cross the disciples scattered. But here in today’s scripture we see them come together. After the resurrection Jesus met with His followers on several occasions. Today we read instructions and a promise Jesus gave His followers.
Jesus tells them, “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” Remember in the Book of John Jesus spoke to them about this. They didn’t understand then but now it was time for them to experience this wonderful truth. Receiving the Holy Spirit was part of the finished work of Jesus. This is not a conditional promise but it was a promise that came with responsibility.
My brothers and sisters God does not give us His Spirit simply to make us feel better. I know that we receive multiple benefits and blessings when we receive His Spirit but it is meant for so much more. When we receive God’s Spirit we become His partners in sharing His love and salvation with this lost and dying world. We become witnesses to all who do not know Jesus! What an incredible privilege this is! Just as Jesus came to earth to reconcile man to God the Father, we also join in this work. We have been given all that we need to accomplish this task! My friends we can’t save anyone but we can point them to the One who can!
Be strong and courageous, the Lord is with you wherever you go! Take the opportunity to share the Lord’s love and salvation with those who are lost and walking in darkness. Blessings!!
