“The Word became Human”

Let’s review for a minute. In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, the Word was God. God created everything through the Word. We can read that the Word was light, it shined in the darkness. A man by the name of John the Baptist spoke about this light. We also seen that some believed and followed the light while others rejected and continued to walk in darkness.

Today we will continue reading a couple more verses found in John chapter one. These verses confirm without a doubt that the Word is not something but it is someone! We also read that everyone who believes in this someone is richly and eternally blessed!

John 1:12-14

But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. 13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God. 14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.

I would like to look at part of verse fourteen first. The Word became human, the Word became Jesus, Emmanuel, God with us! God demonstrated His love towards us by sending Jesus to this earth. Rather than God Almighty simply telling us that He loves us He wanted to show and prove His love towards us. What an AWESOME God we serve!

The Apostle John wrote; to ALL who believe and accepted Jesus were given the right to become Children of God. This is the theme throughout the Book of John. God sent Jesus wanting everyone to believe and to be saved. But as we know many will reject Christ and choose to walk in darkness.

In verse thirteen John assures every child of God that when they believe and accept Jesus they are reborn. It is birth that comes from God, we are reborn of His Spirit not from human passion. The Spirit that lives in every believer is the same Spirit that lived in Christ. This Spirit is full of unfailing love and faithfulness, it is full of God’s glory!

Emmanuel, God with us is not just about a baby in a manger or even Christ walking among the people. Emmanuel is also about God’s Spirit living in every believer. We will be exploring this wonderful and powerful gift we have been given. Today stop and think about the incredible gift of God’s Son, Word and Spirit!

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is GREAT! His faithful love endures forever!
