“The Power of Words”

Words are powerful, therefore I will declare! This is the day the Lord has made and I will rejoice and be glad in it. I am a child of God, loved, redeemed, forgiven and set free! I have been given victory over the power of sin and death. I will choose this day to rest in my Lord’s presence, trust in His promises and walk in His power. Today as I trust and seek the Lord with all of my heart, He will direct my path, protect and provide all that I need. Hallelujah, WHAT A SAVIOR!

My friends today’s scripture is challenging and might feel harsh. Jesus is addressing the religious leaders but we can all receive a lesson in His words. Never underestimate the power of your words and never forget the Lord is ALWAYS listening.

Matthew 12:34-37

You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. 35 A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. 36 And I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. 37 The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”

Many of you know, I am leaving for the US again. I have the privilege to officiate a very dear friends funeral this Saturday. Please pray as I travel!

I personally think today’s scripture is clear and easy to understand. As I said yesterday I like to talk so this is a little scary in my flesh. The main point to see, the words we speak reflect our hearts. How many times have you said something and then it is followed by, “sorry I didn’t mean to say that?” The truth is, what you said proceeded from your heart, you just didn’t want to make it public.

Our words should be used as a warning for all of us. If our words are negative, hurtful or unnecessary we should stop and evaluate our hearts. We need to immediately ask ourselves “are we walking in the Spirit or our flesh?” Remember the Spirit of God living in you is producing good things, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. If your words do not represent this fruit they are not from God. Therefore we are told; we will give an account for our words.

If we are walking in the Spirit there will be no problem with the words we speak. Just as Jesus only spoke the words His Father gave Him we can do the same. I want to encourage you, it is a new day, full of God’s mercies and faithfulness. Walk in His power and watch your speech dramatically change!
