“The Abundant Love of Jesus”

We talk a lot about the love of Jesus but why? Some have grown up in church singing “Jesus loves me this I know for the Bible tells me so.” Maybe you grew up in a family attending church each week and people have told you Jesus loves you. Someone may have given you a tract in which you read “Jesus loves you.” I think about the songs that have been written and sung about the love of Jesus. I wonder how many sermons have been preached about the love of Jesus? The truth is, we have heard over and over again in some form or fashion, Jesus loves us.

But nothing proves the love of Jesus more than looking at the cross. Realizing and trusting in the finish work of Jesus Christ. We can attend church, sing songs and listen to endless messages about the love of Jesus. But nothing proves His love like today’s scripture spoken out of the mouth of the Apostle Paul. Paul knew about the love of God, he grew up in the synagogue, singing the songs of Zion and listening to the messages. But it wasn’t until he personally experienced the love of Jesus that His life transformed. Therefore he wrote these words to the church in Rome and all who will read this great book!

Romans 5:6-8

When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. 7 Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good. 8 But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.

Many of you know as you read this verse, it is my favorite verse in the Bible. I love God’s word but this particular verse transformed my life the most. Just as Paul said who wants to die for a good person nevertheless a wicked and unjust person. It would be like Hitler being sentenced to death and you would be willing to take his place. Let’s just be honest no one would volunteer to die for their enemy.

If you read Romans chapter three you will quickly learn, we are all born sinners, separated from God and enemies of Him. Then we transition and read two wonderful and powerful words: “BUT GOD!” He showed is great love for us! Other translations say, He demonstrated His love, He proved His love. However you want to say it Jesus did it while we were still sinners, enemies of our God and Creator. He did not wait for us to repent, turn to Him or love Him. No the Apostle John assures us that God Almighty first loved us! The scriptures make it crystal clear God pursued us, He found us, He called us and He saved those who would believe!

How do I know God loves me, I believe with all of my heart Jesus died for me while I was a sinner. My friends listen to these words, Jesus died for you! A long time ago I believed and trusted that if I was the only person in this world Jesus would have given His life for me because of His ABUNDANT LOVE TOWARDS ME! Therefore what else can I say but, “Thank You Jesus for all you have done, all that you are doing and all that you will continue to do because of your abundant love for me! Blessings my brothers and sisters, today rest, trust and walk in the abundant love of Jesus!!
