“New Bodies”
Hello my friends, thank you for joining me today. Over the last week I decided to freshen up our house so I have been scraping and painting. What I discovered, I may not be in the best shape as I thought. When I awake the next day I seem to be finding new places in my body that hurt. It is funny how we can exercise but when we do something out of our normal routine we find muscles that feel new. As a follower of Jesus when I experience this it reminds me, this is not my home and I will be given a new body! (Thank God!!!)
Jesus told His disciples, I am going to prepare a place for you, when everything is ready I will come and get you, so that you will ALWAYS be with Me! Wow, what an incredible promise! In today’s scripture the Apostle Paul gives us a little better understanding of this wonderful promise!
2 Corinthians 5:4-5
While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life. 5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit.
We all know that we come into this world as babies. God knits us together in our mother’s womb, He tells us that we are wonderfully and fearfully created. We grow up and live in what Paul calls an earthly tent. (Our earthly bodies) But like everything on this earth the moment it is created it begins to decay and die.
Therefore as followers of Jesus we have been given this incredible promise of receiving a new body in heaven. My friends this is something I truly look forward to! Our new bodies will be without pain, suffering, decay or death. They will be perfect, pure and eternal. You may want to just stop for a moment and give the Lord thanks and praise for such a wonderful promise!
You maybe thinking but pastor how can you be so certain of this? First, God said it so I believe it. Second, we see the answer in today’s verse. I have been given the Holy Spirit to confirm this truth and many others. I don’t have to wonder or doubt if this is true. The Holy Spirit living in me is confirming this truth. I will be given a new body in heaven.
I want to encourage you to think about this for a moment. We all know at some point we will die (unless Jesus comes back first). The scripture gives us a promise, you will die and then judgment. Those who have believed in Jesus will be given new bodies and spend eternity with God. Those who have not believed will be separated from God in a place called hell to suffer for all of eternity. God’s will; all will believe, turn to Him and be saved. But He gives every man, woman and child the choice. Today choose Jesus, life and salvation. When you do He will give you His Spirit as a guarantee and the power to live a life pleasing to Almighty God! Don’t wait another day without being absolutely sure that you will spend eternity in heaven clothed in your new body!
