“Life Speaker”
Today’s devotion is specifically written to those who know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior. We are called and have been equipped to be life speakers. Every living person has the opportunity to speak life or death. But as followers of Jesus we are to speak life.
Our words should be humble, loving, encouraging and truthful. As we speak words of life they should build others up not tear them down. Our words will reveal the true condition of our hearts and relationship with Jesus. Today, we will read from the Book of Proverbs, the writer makes a contrast between those who trust Jesus and those who do not.
Proverbs 10:20-21
The words of the godly are like sterling silver; the heart of a fool is worthless. 21 The words of the godly encourage many, but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense.
The writer begins by telling us, “the words of the godly are valuable.” Why? The words we speak should be the words of Jesus. If we are walking in His Spirit then His Spirit is speaking through us. Think about this truth for a moment. Honestly, how many times do your words get you into trouble? I have confessed and shared with all of you, this is an area I struggle. But during our study throughout this month it is helping me to understand speaking life can be simple. It is just an area we need to humble before God. I can’t be a life speaker without Him!
The words of the godly encourage many but fools are destroyed by their lack of common sense. Anytime we see the word fool within scripture it is referring to someone who does not believe in God. Therefore they are relying on their own wisdom and understanding, what would you expect other than destruction. As people who know God our words should be encouraging. If they are not encouraging than we are not walking in His Spirit, we are walking in our flesh.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life, it is a gift from God. We can make a decision right now to humble ourselves (Including our words) before the Lord. You are loved, chosen, forgiven and set free. God has given you His Spirit and His Spirit is producing everything you need to be a life speaker. It is your choice to walk in His Spirit and speak life or walk in your flesh and speak death. Whatever choice you make today will reveal the true condition of your heart!
Father, thank you for loving us! I pray for my friends and myself, may we all choose to speak life today for your glory! Amen!!
