“Great Power”
I hope you are being challenged and encouraged as we study “God with us and God in us.” The truth contained in these two statements are powerful and they have the potential to transform your life. I say “potential” because for them to transform our lives we must be willing to trust and partner with God. We must be willing to humble ourselves and submit to His Spirit.
I made reference yesterday to our scripture today. It is a promise that I have hidden in my heart for many years. When I trust in this promise it empowers me to do what is right and the blessings have been endless. I thank God that as you humble yourself, trust in God’s presence and walk in His power you will be blessed also!
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!
Jesus was asked, “what is the greatest commandment?” Jesus replied, “love the Lord you God with all of your heart, mind, soul and strength. The second is just as important, love your neighbor as yourself.” He also said that all of the laws are fulfilled by these two. This is certainly not new to us, you have heard me say countless times, “love God, love people.” Unfortunately to many times we don’t love people or we pick and choose who we will love depending on their attitude and actions toward us. But Jesus never gives us an excuse not to love. Jesus said, “I want you to love your enemies, I want you to pray and bless those who hurt you.” Again to many times our response is NO, I can’t love those people! But today’s scripture strips away all of our personal excuses. My brothers and sisters if you are a child of God you can love ALL people! This is why God’s word tells us that if we don’t love we don’t know God!
One of the Holy Spirit’s responsibility is to produce His fruit within EVERY believer. Notice what the first fruit is; LOVE! As a child of God the Spirit of God is living in you producing love. Therefore love is in you, your responsibility is to submit to the Spirit’s power and let Him love through you. Can you get in the way? Of course you can, but don’t use the excuse that you can’t. This is the same principle concerning all of the fruit the Spirit is producing. The fruit of the Spirit is not something we need to work on or pray for. It is something we need to trust and walk in.
Check out the words of the Apostle Paul spoken to the Corinthians. We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves. It is not about what we can do, it is about what Jesus already did and what the Spirit is doing in the life of every child of God. Within every believer lives the great power of Almighty God! Stop fighting His Spirit and let it flow through you. I promise, it will truly transform your life!
