“God hates Pride”
When we teach on the subject of pride we will be looking a lot at the Book of Proverbs. This book was mostly written by King Solomon, the wisest man to ever live. It was originally taught to the young Jewish boys preparing them for life. Therefore the Book of Proverbs is packed full of instructions and principles for a life that will honor God and to be prosperous. There are many people and companies following these principles and teachings of Proverbs simply because they work!
Listen, if these lessons work for people who are still walking in darkness, just imagine how powerful they will be for a child of God! In Proverbs 6:16-19 we learn of seven things the Lord hates but as you can see He repeats one twice. There are six things the Lord hates— no, seven things he detests: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, 18 a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, 19 a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family. Notice the first one, haughty eyes (PRIDE)! God hates pride at every level. Let’s take a look at an additional scripture also found in Proverbs confirming this truth!
Proverbs 8:12-13
“I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. 13 All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.
This particular Proverb is a personal call from Wisdom. Many months ago we talked about wisdom, it is not something, it is someone. Wisdom (The Holy Spirit) is calling people to an invitation to trust and walk with God. We are told to be together with good judgment. When we do we will receive knowledge and discernment. This will allow us to fear and love God and hate what is evil. My friends as God’s children we should love what God loves and hate what God hates!
We can quickly see that God hates pride. Why? Pride leads to destruction, pride cast Lucifer (satan) from the presence of Almighty God. Pride separated Adam and Eve from God’s presence and the Garden of Eden. Pride will never draw us closer to God it will always separate, therefore God hates it. If you dig deep you would discover most sin, maybe all sin is connected to some degree of pride. Every sin regardless of how big or small separates us from an intimate relationship with God our Father. I am not speaking about a loss of salvation but the sweet, intimate fellowship God desires to have with His children.
Throughout this month and year we will continue to learn the dangers of pride and the blessings of humility. We are invited to humble ourselves under the mighty power (God’s Love) and at just the right time God will lift us up! God wants to bless His people but we must be willing to humble ourselves, trust and obey Him! Wisdom will give us knowledge but unless we believe and walk in God’s truth it really doesn’t matter how much we know!
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is GREAT! His faithful love endures forever!
