“An Abundant Opportunity”
We can’t speak about living the abundant life without acknowledging our greatest, abundant opportunity. So many people go throughout life wanting and pursuing more. They never come to the realization and belief that there is a God who created and loves them. Therefore they die missing this abundant opportunity.
But then there our others, they acknowledge God and even believe in His love but never fully live the life God wants for them. They may say all the right things but deep inside they feel something is missing.
Today we will look at probably the most familiar scripture in the Bible. It is one that so many have memorized and quoted multiply times. Yet I believe because of its familiarity we lose the truth, power and abundant opportunity it provides.
John 3:16
“For this is how God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
I told you it was a familiar verse, I know most of you know this word. But please I implore you to slow down and let the Spirit speak to you concerning this verse. God’s Word is alive, it is active, the Spirit can give you greater understanding of what you think you already know. When we read the Word of God we must be willing to humble ourselves and let the Spirit do His work in our lives. Some of you saw that it was John 3:16 and didn’t even really read it. Your thought, oh it is this verse again.
These words were spoken from our Savior’s heart to all of us. Jesus tells us this is how God, My Father in heaven loved the world. He gave His one and only Son. God gave Jesus to the world to be sacrificed, to die for our sins. As Jesus spoke these words He knew in just a short time He was the Son to be sacrificed. He would be the One people would need to believe in to have eternal life. God’s love for His creation (men and women) motivated Him to send Jesus to die for all of the world. Not just those who deserved it, those who were good but EVERYONE! This is the perfect, unfailing love of God Almighty. He gives everyone this abundant opportunity. Our responsibility is to believe in Jesus the One He has sent!
Believing in Jesus is not just a one time event. Every moment of everyday we have the opportunity to believe in Christ. To trust in His promises and walk in His Spirit. As we do He will bless His children beyond anything we can think or imagine.
