“Abundant Inheritance”
It is a new day my friends let us rejoice and give thanks to our Father in Heaven. He is good and His mercies endure forever, praise His Holy Name!!
I looked up the word inheritance, the first definition says, the act of inheriting property. This is vague definition but I liked the second, the acquisition of a possession, condition, or trait from past generations. I like this definition because it is not just about stuff, it can also include a condition or trait from the past generation. This is extremely important when we realize we are co-hiers with Christ Jesus.
Have you ever thought; your identity is connected to your inheritance in Christ? When you became co-heirs with Jesus you also received and possessed His character and traits. Take a moment and think about that!! Today we will look at a prayer spoken by the Apostle Paul for the church at Ephesus and all who believe in Jesus.
Ephesians 1:18-20
I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
19 I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power 20 that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.
Many of you know, I am a huge fan of the first three chapters of Ephesians. These three chapters are packed full of God’s truth confirming what Christ did and who we are in Him. The Apostle Paul spent over three years teaching and discipling those who placed their trust in Jesus at Ephesus. He loved and was devoted to these folks.
The prayer we read today is not only encouraging it is powerful. Paul’s greatest desire is for the people to truly understand what Jesus did and accomplished when He died on the cross and rose from the dead. He wants the people and us to see all that we have received by placing our trust in Jesus. Notice the wording, “understand the CONFIDENT hope Jesus has given you.” We should know and never doubt God’s love, salvation and commitment to those who believe. But Paul continues to pray, he prays that we will also understand the power living inside of every believer. This is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead. I understand the urgency and importance of this prayer. The power of the Holy Spirit living in each believer is the power of Almighty God to accomplish all that pleases Him. This is the same power that will raise every child of God.
Today I will be speaking more on this subject. In 1 John we are told, He (Christ) who lives in me is greater than he (satan) who lives in this world. Do you understand and realize how much power is in this verse? This is why Paul is praying for the church!
Father, I join my brother Paul praying for your people. May we all truly understand the power we have inherited from our Father in Heaven through the death and resurrection of Jesus. We are never left alone in this world, Your Spirit and power are with us. You have given us everything that pertains to life and godliness and you continue to work in us giving us the desire and power to do what pleases you. Through Your Spirit you confirm and give us confidence that on that last day as Your chosen people we too will be resurrected and join Jesus, our Savior in Heaven. Thank You for this precious and powerful promise!!
