“Abundant Grace 2”

God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. I know most of you reading this devotion already know and believe this wonderful truth. But how many times do we find ourselves falling back into trying to please God to gain His favor or even forgiveness. We tend to do it after we mess up. The enemy whispers something like this, “you are not good enough, God will never love someone like you.” This sparks an urgency within us to try harder. But take a look at today’s scripture.

Romans 5:20-21

God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Wow, what an incredible scripture we read today. But please don’t be like the believers in Rome at this time. When the Apostle Paul said this to the people, their response, “awesome so we can just keep sinning so God’s grace will abound.” In which Paul replied, no absolutely not! As God’s children we want to be grateful for God’s amazing, wonderful and abundant grace but we don’t want to take it for granted or abuse it.

As I read this scripture I was reminded of a quote I have written over my desk. God’s pursuit of you is always greater than your ability to wander away from Him. Why is this so true? God’s grace becomes more and more abundant. Yes, we are saved by grace but it is also God’s grace that keeps us from falling away. It is God’s grace that one day Jesus with great joy will usher each person who believes in Him into the glorious presence of Almighty God without a single fault. My friends that is ABUNDANT GRACE!
