“A New Heart and Spirit”
Throughout this month we have been talking about the incredible gift of Jesus Christ and His Spirit. I hope and pray that you have been encouraged and challenged to evaluate your life. Are you living and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit?
I didn’t send out a devotion yesterday but I hope you read the scripture. The scripture reminded us that God’s Spirit is given to everyone who believes and it is a guarantee that you will be saved on the day of redemption. It also warned every believer not to bring sorrow to God’s Holy Spirit by the way you live. God’s Spirit within us is producing everything we need to live a life that will glorify God. He is working in us giving us the desire and power to do what pleases Him. My brothers and sisters we must stop making excuses for our own personal desires and sins. Take a look at these verses written hundreds of years before Jesus came to earth.
Ezekiel 36:26-27
And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations.
WOW, what an incredible promise God gave and fulfilled! Do you remember a couple of days ago I shared part of Romans 3 with you? It described every human without God. Every person is born a sinner and separated from God.
In today’s verse Ezekiel begins with, I (God) will give you a new heart and Spirit. Why? Because the human heart is like stone and it is stubborn! The human’s natural behavior will always be selfish and full of pride. Therefore in God’s amazing grace He gives those who believe a new, tender and responsive heart. He gives a new Spirit so that every believer can and will follow His Truth. This is why we are told we become new creations, the old is gone and the new has come.
Once again it is crystal clear, if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, God has given you a new heart and Spirit. You have been given EVERYTHING you need to live a life that will glorify Him. Every excuse we use to fulfill our own will and desires results in discouragement and failure. Jesus Christ came to give us life, an abundant and satisfying life. When we walk in the power of His Spirit we will experience such a life. My friends it doesn’t mean that we won’t have challenges and difficulties. But as we walk in God’s Spirit we can experience joy, peace and thanksgiving even in the most difficult circumstances.
Always be joyful, never stop praying, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God’s will for those who are in Christ Jesus!!
