“It is your turn”

I pray for my family and friends, every person who has read through this month’s scriptures and devotions. I hope they have seen and experienced Your complete and powerful forgiveness toward them. Your forgiveness is a result of your eternal love for the world, thank You! You command every person who believes in you to forgive others just as you forgive us. As Your children may we walk in Your Spirit letting You do Your perfect work through us. Thank You, I know we don’t have to do this alone, You are with us, giving us everything we need! Blessed be Your Eternal Name, Amen!

Matthew 10:8

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!

I have to be honest, like many of you who read today’s message you might be thinking. What does this have to do with forgiveness? At first glance, I asked the same question. But then I remembered I taught a lesson on this particular verse. Before we move forward take a moment and read the verse again.

Jesus is sending His disciples out and He gave these instructions. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with Leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you received. I wonder if while the disciples were walking away they were mumbling to themselves and one another. Thinking, yes I was probably sick but I have never been dead or had leprosy and I definitely have never had a demon. What does He mean freely give as you received.

Have you ever stopped and thought about how this verse parallels to the human condition. We are all born sinners, everyone falls short of God’s glory. Sin is the greatest sickness within the world. Because of sin we are all dead, the wages of sin is death! Leprosy was a devastating disease but not because it had the potential to kill you. Leprosy separated and alienated you from family, community and the synagogue. If you had leprosy you would be taken to a village away from society and normal life. You were rejected, cast away and many times forgotten about. Without Jesus we all had demons!

The moment Jesus called you by name and you placed your faith in Him you were forgiven. God’s forgiveness healed you from the power of sin in your life. You are no longer dead but He has given you new life. You are no longer separated, rejected or cast away. You are loved by the Creator of the Universe, The Great I AM! You have been set free from the demons, you now can walk and live in His Spirit forever! Now because of all Jesus has done, IT IS YOUR TURN! Give as freely as you received! Be willing to forgive those who have hurt, rejected or disappointed you. Blessings my brothers and sisters!
