“The Great Transfer”
Year after year, service after service, the Jewish people, God’s chosen people would need to bring offerings into the temple. There were basically five types of offerings. The first three are not mandatory but out of devotion, the burnt, grain and peace offerings. But the sin and guilt offering were mandatory. These two offerings were required for atonement and breaking social/ritual laws. The normal offering was a unblemish, spotless animal. Although provisions were made for the very poor.
The scriptures teach us Jesus came to be our final offering. He is the spotless, unblemished Lamb that was slain for the sins of the world. You can read about this in Hebrews 10. In today’s scripture the Apostle Paul writes to the believers living in Colosse and we receive the privilege to also read these powerful words!
Colossians 1:13-14
For He has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of His dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
I know most of you who are reading this already believe Jesus died for your sins. But I think many times we forget what that really means as we live in this world. Let’s be honest this world is full of evil and darkness. This is why today’s scripture is so encouraging and powerful!
In God’s amazing love for you and me He has rescued us! In order to be rescued we must have been in danger. We are all born in sin and darkness. Our future is death, hell and separated from God and everything that is good. But God rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of Christ. Notice the this is all written in the past tense. It has already been done, our only needed response is to believe and say THANK YOU JESUS! Jesus Christ was the final needed sacrifice for the atonement of sin. He purchased our freedom and forgave our sins by shedding His blood on the cross. My friends, understand the words used in these two verses are legal terms in the Greek language. Therefore at the Great White Throne of Judgment where every person will one day stand Jesus will be the Advocate for everyone who has placed their faith in Him. Almighty God will not see you as a sinner but He will look at you through the blood of Jesus and declare you blameless, spotless and innocent.
Therefore my brothers and sisters let us live in the light of Christ’s glorious Kingdom today. Yes the world may be dark but we have been transferred into His glorious light! This is why we can proclaim, this is not our home! O death where is your sting, O grave where is your victory!! Hallelujah, Jesus! What a Savior!!
