“Faithful and Just”

Throughout the scriptures we see these two characteristics spoken about God. The Lord has not changed, He is the same yesterday, today and forever.

The Apostle John is writing to several Gentile congregations and to all who will believe in Christ Jesus. Today’s scripture is a familiar one, it is an encouraging promise from God. Let’s dig a little deeper.

1 John 1:9

But if we confess our sins to Him, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.

A couple of days ago in our devotion I wrote, we are already forgiven. When Jesus proclaimed “it is finished” the sin of the world received forgiveness. If we have already been forgiven why is the Apostle John instructing us to confess our sins to God? This is a question I have been ask on many occasions.

John begins telling us, “confess your sins to Him.” People no longer needed to go to a priest to confess their sins. We have been invited to come into the presence of Almighty God. This is one of the biggest reason God wants us to confess our sins. God wants a personal relationship with each one of His children. Let’s be honest we sin all the time therefore we would be in constant conversation and communion with our Father in Heaven. The second reason we are told to confess our sins. We evaluate and recognize our own personal behavior based on the truth of God’s. Word. We understand the deep love of our Father toward us knowing that He is the only One who can forgive sin. We acknowledge He is faithful and just.

Remember in the Garden, Adam and Eve hid after they sinned, why? The scriptures tell us they were afraid. But God’s perfect love cast out all fear therefore when we come into His presence to confess our sins, we are trusting in God’s perfect love toward us. We thank Him and rejoice knowing that we have been cleansed by the blood of the Lamb.

My brothers and sisters, take a moment and thank God for the blood of Jesus that covers our sins. Rejoice in knowing that you are loved by the King of all kings. Have a super, blessed day!
