“Finish Faithful”

It was about a year ago, I challenged all of us to make our goal to finish faithful a daily challenge rather than just a life challenge. When we finish faithful day after day we will live a life of faithfulness to our Lord.

Yesterday we read that God told the Apostle Paul, “My power works best in weakness.” We have access to the abundant power of Almighty God. When we choose to humble ourselves and walk in His Spirit nothing is impossible. Today Paul gives us some simple but powerful instructions to accomplish it.

Philippians 3:13-16

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. 15 Let all who are spiritually mature agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must hold on to the progress we have already made.

If you are following along with our daily scripture reading you will quickly notice I shared a completely different scripture. Yes, I wrote the wrong one but I feel like the Lord has something to tell us concerning the Apostle Paul’s words to us. Paul is writing to the believers living in Philipi. I am sure like all of us they were becoming distracted with the busyness of life. It also sounds as if they were being distracted with their former life before Christ.

Paul tells them and us, I focus on this ONE thing, forget the past and move forward. Each one of us is running the race God has set before us. I am not a big runner but one thing I know for sure you will never win if you are always looking back. You have heard me say countless times, today is a new day, it is a gift from God. My friends we can’t change the past but we can focus on today and the prize God has set before us.

Many times believers get caught up in disagreements and conflicts. Paul is telling us to walk in the power of God’s Spirit. He will produce maturity and unity. Don’t believe the enemies’s lies, keep your eyes on Christ, the Author and Finisher of your faith. Day by day as you lay your head on your pillow I pray that you may hear. “Well done My good and faithful servant, enter your place of rest!”
