“Our Faithful Response”
It is a new day full of God’s everlasting love and faithfulness. Let’s join together with all of heaven, earth and creation and give Him thanks! I sat in my office this morning listening to the birds sing, they were singing praise to their Creator. They are not worried about their next meal or even their next breath. They are living for this moment, enjoying the life they have now! We certainly can learn a lot by slowing down and observing God’s incredible creation.
If you attended Antioch or listened to the message online you quickly noticed that today’s title is the same as yesterday’s sermon. Today’s scriptures connects to yesterday’s devotion but it also describes what our proper and faithful response should look like. Yesterday, the Apostle John reminds us, “LOVE ONE ANOTHER!” He literally said, “if we don’t love we don’t know God.” Therefore our faithful response is to love at all times!
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. 6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. 7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
I know many of you heard me say this before but it is worth saying again. I love the fact that Jesus teaches and commands us to love Him and one another. He literally told us to love others as He has loved us. In His divine wisdom He has given us a perfect description of what His love looks like. This is what we are reading in today’s scripture, a definition of God’s love. I want to encourage you to read it again. Only this time rather than reading it as your responsibility, understand this is God’s love towards you! This is how God loves us first! Also never forget Jesus commands us to love, He has given us a perfect definition of His love and He has given us His Spirit producing His love in us and through us.
As children of God we can love like Jesus. That is why our faithful response should be love. Love is a choice and it is not dependent on our circumstances or the actions of another person. If we are willing to humble ourselves and walk in the Spirit, love will not only be our faithful response it will become our natural response. The scripture we read today is our standard as followers of Jesus Christ, it is not the exception of some super christians. We are all told to love and through God’s Spirit we can accomplish it!
Blessings my friends!
