“Words of Encouragement”
WOW, the month of February is over today. I hope and pray you have been challenged concerning the words of your mouth, I know I have!
Today we look at a verse written by the Apostle Paul to the believers living in Ephesus. It is worth reading all of Ephesians 4:17-32, Paul gives us a description of living as children of the Light. Needless to say this includes the words of our mouth. There is no doubt if you have a desire to glorify God you must be willing to guard your heart and submit your mouth to the Lord!
Ephesians 4:29
Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.
Do you want to glorify God with your words? If you said yes, just read today’s verse again. Paul could not have made it any easier to determine whether your words are good or not.
He begins with what not to do. Don’t use foul or abusive language, period, no exceptions! He then transitions into what our words should be. They should be good, helpful and encouraging. He also emphasizes that everything we say should be good. Not just some words, not depending on our feelings, emotions or situation. Every time we open our mouths it should be to glorify God and build others up.
Trust me, as I write and read this I am thinking how I fall short of this standard. Although I fall short I need to be careful not to make excuses for my behavior. I need to go back to verse 23 and be diligent to “LET THE SPIRIT RENEW MY THOUGHTS AND ATTITUDES!” Otherwise my words will come from my flesh, desires and attitude rather than God. Listen my friends, it is easy to make excuses for our struggles but our excuses don’t bring freedom, healing or victory. Only our willingness to humble ourselves before Almighty God.
Have a super, blessed day! Take every opportunity to speak life and blessings over all you encounter!
