“Does it need to be said?”

Thank you for joining me today. Honestly I wanted to skipped writing the devotion today. When I read today’s verse I know we all need to hear it but I certainly don’t feel like the one to share it. Read the title again, unfortunately, to many times, I ask this question only after I said what I probably shouldn’t have said.

But I also realize God’s Truth and Spirit is the only one who can set us free. We all struggle is some area of our lives. We need to understand that the struggle is produced because we have not yet submitted to Christ. We have not humbled that area of our life under His mighty power, therefore we are relying on ourselves for victory.

The Book of Proverbs teaches us principles and consequences. In today’s scripture te writer makes his point clear and easy to understand.

Proverbs 17:27-28

27 A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered.

28 Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent;

with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent.

This proverb highlights several benefits of keeping quiet. If you have nothing worthwhile to say remain quiet. Remaining quiet allows you to listen better so that you can have better understanding. Make sure you pause, think and then respond.

The writer even tells us that a fool is consider wise when they keep quiet. When it comes to speaking, less is more! We don’t always need to give our advice, opinions or thoughts. I wonder how many times Jesus had something to say but remained quiet for the good of the situation. Think about it, Jesus could have spoke on every occasion, in every situation. He would have been right, had complete knowledge of the situation and yet chose to remain quiet.

There is another Proverb it teaches us, in a multitude of words sin is not lacking. Which means if we continue to talk it is just a matter of time till we will sin in the conversation. Therefore we are better off remaining quiet, thinking and asking the question, “Does it need to be said?”

My friends, I would ask you to pray for me as I pray for you concerning this subject. Today is a new day, full of the Lord’s mercies, He is faithful, true and ready to help all who ask! Blessings!
