“Virtuous Speech”

When people come to me for help, I find myself asking the same question. “Do you want to glorify God?” I ask this question for a simple reason. If someone doesn’t want to glorify God I probably can’t help them. My advice and help will be from the Word of God. He is the only One who can truly make life better.

Our scripture today is found in Proverbs 31. This particular Proverbs describes the life of a virtuous woman. But I believe this verse can apply to all of us. We have been talking about having humble speech, words that will encourage and build others up. One of the qualities of the virtuous woman is to have virtuous speech. We all should have virtuous speech! Before we look at our scripture let’s define virtuous; to be morally excellent or righteous.

Proverbs 31:26

When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness.

Please take a few moments and let this verse sink into your heart. Notice the wording, “when she speaks” making it obvious she will speak. Again this applies to all of us, when we speak our words should reflect our relationship with Jesus. Think about the definition of virtuous, morally excellent and righteous. In Christ we have been made right with God, we have been given the breastplate of righteousness. He has given us EVERYTHING we need to be morally excellent. Therefore we can choose to speak with wisdom and kindness.

The question at hand is, “do you want to glorify God?” To many times we speak from our personal feelings and emotions rather than through the Holy Spirit. It doesn’t mean we are expected to speak without emotions but we allow the Spirit to work in and through us so that our words will build up and edify others. We need to take a moment and think before we speak. Remember no man can tame the tongue, but if we are willing to humble our tongue to Almighty God our words will be virtuous!

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, my Lord and Savior!!
