“Call it what it is!”

Today is the day the Lord has made, join me as we rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you for taking the time to read the devotions each day. Feel free to contact me with questions or comments, blessings!

We will read once again from the Book of Proverbs. It is a short verse but wow, it is powerful. Tonight at Antioch we will be hosting a dinner and dance for our married couples. I am so excited to attend and join in the fun. But as I read today’s scripture I believe it truly applies to marriages.  Of course the Word of the Lord is for all of us but many times when it comes to marriage couples love to quarrel.

Proverbs 17:19

Anyone who loves to quarrel loves sin; anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster.

We all have been around that person who loves to argue, maybe that person is you. The writer of Proverbs makes it clear, those who love to quarrel loves sin. Understand it is sin because quarreling is aways motivated by pride. Arguing is an attempt to demand our own way. We are told to love one another, demanding our own way is not love therefore it is sin. Just as the writer calls it for what it is, we also need to admit arguing is sin!

But we read a second part to this particular verse. Anyone who trusts in high walls invites disaster. This verse is addressing pride and fear which are both sin. The Lord is our protection and provider. When we place our faith in anything other than Jesus Christ we are inviting disaster into our lives.

If we want to live and walk in the freedom and victory Jesus provided on the cross we must call things for what they are. Every time we engage in an argument it is sin. It will not honor God and it will not benefit you. Therefore as the scriptures teach us, live at peace with everyone as much as it depends on you. Do everything you can do to live at peace. Take responsibility for your sin and let God do the rest!
