“Evaluation 2”

I am back in San Miguel, thank you for your prayers. I missed a couple of days, sorry. But I do want to add yesterday’s verse with today.

A few days ago we looked at a verse in which we were encouraged to evaluate ourselves. Yesterday’s verse is similar but much more powerful. I know we have been studying the subject of humble speech. Jesus told us that our words reflect what is really in our hearts. Therefore yesterday’s verse is even more important. The spirit of pride will make us think we are better than we really are. My friends we live in a fallen world and the overall attitude is pride. What we read yesterday, we need some help to truly evaluate what is in our hearts.

When we add today’s verse we quickly see what our conversations should look like. It emphasizes our responses!

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. 24 Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.

Colossians 4:6

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.

Both verses are easy to understand and are to the point. We need God to help us evaluate our hearts. Our flesh is always ready to make excuses or blame someone else. But at the end of the day we are personally responsible for our choices.

God loves us and He wants to bless His children. But so many of His blessings are connected to our willingness to say and do the right thing. I cannot stress enough how important our words are. Today’s verse focuses on what a good conversation will look like. It will be gracious and attractive, people will see and experience the love of Jesus in us. It also makes reference to our responses. I understand, many times it is my responses that get me into trouble. Why? Because I can become defensive or prideful and these attitudes will never end well.

Humble speech is a choice we all need to make. No one can speak for us, we are responsible for our words. As believers in Jesus Christ we have been given His Spirit. He is working in us giving us EVERYTHING we need to glorify God our Father. If you want to have conversations that are gracious and attractive you MUST walk in His Spirit and let Him love and speak through you. James gives us some great advice in chapter 1, verse 19 “be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to become angry.” It has been said, this is the reason God has given us two ears and one mouth. We should listen twice as much as we speak.

It is great to be home, thanks again for all of your prayers! I love all of you and look forward to see you soon!! Blessings!
