“Do you want to enjoy life?”

Welcome to the month of February. I hope and pray January was a time of reflection, challenge and growing in the Lord’s love and grace. This month we will continue talking about humility but in a more specific subject. We will read, write and meditate on scriptures that will help us speak with humility. Did you know our words reveal a lot about us? The scriptures actually tell us, our words flow directly from our hearts. Therefore people can see the condition of your heart by listening to you speak.

I believe you maybe surprised to know how powerful words can be. In today’s scripture we will be reading from 1 Peter, he begins “if you want to enjoy life.” I have to admit this is a strange statement to me. Why would someone not want to enjoy life? But the truth is, by the words and actions of so many people they will never truly enjoy life. I pray you will not be one of these people.

1 Peter 3:10-11

For the Scriptures say, “If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days, keep your tongue from speaking evil and your lips from telling lies. 11 Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.

My brothers and sisters don’t miss the first words of this scripture, “for the scriptures say.” Although the Apostle Peter wrote these words they are from God. Once again we are asked the same question the people of God were asked long ago. God said; “I place before you life and death, blessing and cursing.” This has been the choice from the beginning of time from our God and Creator. Today’s statement is worded differently but means the same thing. If you want to enjoy life and see many happy days do this!

Keep you tongue from speaking evil and turn your lips from speaking lies. As I said, we will read multiple scriptures this month concerning this subject. Our words have the power of life and death, we can tear down or build up one another with our words. As we speak words of life rather than death we can live at peace with God and one another. My friends, I know this statement is true from experience. At times I allow my tongue to become out of control and it does damage. I remember something my pastor told me many years ago. “You will never need to apologize for something you never said.” In other words, CONTROL YOUR TONGUE! I also know from experience it is possible to control our words when we walk in God’s power!

If we want to enjoy life we need to learn to control our tongues and the words we speak. We need to learn to speak humbly as Christ did. I promise, as we submit to Christ and His Words we will quickly learn how to control our tongue and enjoy life!

I want to personally invite all of you to church today. The message is one that we all need to hear! Today is also Potluck, so grab your favorite food and come join us for a time of fellowship. Blessings, see you soon!!
