“A Humble New Year”

Happy New Year my family, friends, brothers and sisters. I look forward walking with you through this new year. I can’t promise you it will be awesome without problems. But I can promise you that God loves you and He is faithful. I can promise you, if you seek Him with all of your heart, trusting Him, He will lead you down the best pathway for your life. Regardless of what the year may throw at us, I know my Father in Heaven is great and He is with me! I hope you are relying on this truth also.

We begin a New Year, a new theme and a new challenge. Well honestly, it is not anything new it is the same desire God has wanted from before the beginning of creation. He wants all to have a humble heart! This month and throughout the new year we will explore what it means and looks like to live a humble life before Almighty God.

It was a little over a year ago and the Lord gave me this quote:

“Humility is the catalyst for a faith that pleases God” Trust me when I say there are multiply scriptures that will confirm these words. We will read, write and meditate on many of them throughout this month. Today we will jump into our study beginning in the Book of Deuteronomy. I believe this particular verse will quickly define what humility is. May the Lord bless you as you seek Him!!

Deuteronomy 8:2-3

Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands. 3 Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

I think when we hear the phrase “Humble yourself”, a tension builds and we may become defensive. In our flesh we begin to think, what do I need to give up? We are okay giving up somethings, like I would be overly joyed to give up a few pounds around my waist. As long as I can decide what and when I give something up it is okay. Unfortunately in the Kingdom of God it doesn’t work like that. The moment you placed you faith in Jesus you also committed to give up your own way and follow Him. Why, because you believe He loves you and His ways are best for you.

Today we read these words written by Moses inspired by God. He begins, “remember” God led you through the wilderness, He allowed you to be hungry with no food. Why, God wanted to prove to His children that without Him they would die! Nothing has changed throughout history, God is the same then, now and forever. Jesus assures anyone who wants to follow Him, unless you abide in Him you can do NOTHING! My friends unless you humble yourself before God Almighty you will die. We see the lesson God was teaching to His chosen people. God’s people can’t live on bread alone. Bread is an example of all the things people attempt to satisfy their lives. But even bread can’t satisfy our greatest need. Only the Word of God (Jesus) can accomplish it.

We are told in Hebrews 11:6 “without faith it is impossible to please God.” My friends without your willingness to humble yourself you will never truly be satisfied. I think today is a good day to evaluate, humble ourselves and trust our Father in Heaven.

So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He will lift you up in honor.
