“Spirit or Flesh?”
It is December 31, 2025, tomorrow we will begin a brand new year. Regardless of how this past year has gone it is over. Today you have the opportunity to make a decision that could completly transform the New Year. I realized that I forgot to include a scripture for today. Once again the Lord proves faithful, although I may have forgot, He didn’t!
I honestly have no idea how many people are reading the daily devotions I send out. I definitely don’t know who has a relationship with Jesus. But today I want to talk to all of you who know that if you die today you will spend eternity with Jesus.
Many of you have heard me say countless times concerning our walk with Jesus, “DON’T COMPLICATE IT!” God has given us two choices and there is no middle ground. Life and Blessings or Death and Cursings or a different way to say it; “Spirit or Flesh” Again walking in the Spirit leads to life, walking in the flesh leads to death. Unfortunately many believers are saying they walk in the Spirit but their lives do not demonstrate it. Listen, the reason I say don’t complicate it, walking in the Spirit is simple to evaluate. We can know immediately if we are walking in the Spirit or our flesh. Walking in the Spirit will ALWAYS produce love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self control. Anything outside of these things is produced by our flesh.
God’s promise to every believer is the indwelling gift of the Spirit. His Spirit gives us everything we need to live a life pleasing to Him. His Spirit has given us life and victory, today, tomorrow and for all of eternity. Our responsibility is to walk in His Spirit not our flesh.
Zechariah 4:6
Then he said to me, “This is what the Lord says to Zerubbabel: It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies.
2 Corinthians 4:7
We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.
The first thing I see as I read both of these incredible verses, it is not about me. It is the power of Almighty God living in me. In the Old Testament the Spirit of God would come and go upon the people but it was still God’s power that did the work. The people simply needed to respond to God’s word and work. The Apostle Paul is telling the readers/believers, we have this light shining in us. (The Holy Spirit, The Glory of Almighty God). We are just fragile clay pots but we contain a GREAT TREASURE. This great treasure living in every believer is the power. It is not about our knowledge, abilities, power or position. It is about the power of the Holy Spirit living in each person.
So what tends to be the problem with followers of Jesus? In my experience we tend to make decisions based on our desires, wisdom and knowledge. We get into the consequences of our decisions and then we start praying about what we should do. Unfortunately many times the consequences are already effecting our lives in a negative way. As I write this I have a thought, think about it. In the Old Testament the Spirit would come and go, in the New Testament we are given God’s Spirit the moment we believe. But now we seem to come and go, the Spirit dwells in us giving us everything we need to please God but we walk away in our own direction.
My brothers and sisters you have the opportunity to change this paradigm. As children of God do you want to honor your Father in Heaven? His Word tells us that we can, through the power of His Spirit, it is possible! In Galatians 5:16 we are told, walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of your flesh! Jesus tells us in John 15:5, Abide and Me and I will abide in you and you will bear much fruit, apart from Me you can do NOTHING! My friends don’t complicate it… Spirit or Flesh! It is your choice!
Rest in God’s Presence
