“Confident Hope”

We can celebrate the birth of Jesus, but thank God the story did not end there. Of course it was miraculous and glorious but it was just the beginning! It wasn’t until Jesus willingly gave His life on the cross and proclaimed “It is Finished” that the greatest miracle took place. The Son of God given as the perfect sacrifice once and for all! He paid the price for sin and became the Savior of the world. Today Jesus invites all people to believe and come to Him. When we do we receive eternal life, we become new creations!

Today we will read from the Book of Titus. Titus was a believer, the Apostle Paul left him on the island of Crete to establish the church and preach the Good News. This letter to Titus was to give instructions and encouragement as he fulfilled the mission. It is a short and easy to read book. Take a little time and read thru it.

Titus 3:4-7

But— When God our Savior revealed his kindness and love, 5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit. 6 He generously poured out the Spirit upon us through Jesus Christ our Savior. 7 Because of his grace he made us right in his sight and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.

Immediately we see a transition in Paul’s writing. Prior to these words Paul was telling Titus and everyone who will read this letter; be full of grace and patient with those who do not believe. Never forget that before Jesus we were all like them. This is important for all of us today, never forget who you were and who Jesus has created you to be today.

Paul begins to share once again the beauty of God’s salvation. God revealed His kindness and love, He saved us! No one earned it, no one was good enough, no one deserved it! We can’t boast about the incredible gift of salvation we can only humbly come before our Father in heaven and give thanks! Paul reminds the readers; because of the sacrifice of Jesus your sins are washed away, you have been given a new life through the Holy Spirit. It was God’s amazing grace that we were made right in the sight of God Almighty. Never, ever forget that He has given us His Spirit to give us confidence that we will inherit eternal life. This confident hope will not disappoint it is secure in the truth and promise of Almighty God!

My brothers and sisters don’t let your hearts be troubled. God cannot lie therefore we can rejoice knowing that this is not our home. We can rejoice knowing that we will never be alone. My friends, God is with you, God is in you and God is for you! You are blessed because of the confident hope of your salvation!

Give thanks to the Lord, for He is GREAT! His faithful love endures forever!
