“Power with Purpose”

Hello my friends, thank you for joining me today. Before we get started let’s take a moment and give thanks to the Lord for all He has done, all that He is doing and all that He will do! The Lord is Great and worthy to be praised!

Most of us have heard the saying; “with great power comes great responsibility.” The moment we believe in Jesus we become children of God. He then gives us His Spirit, the same Spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead. I know you hear this truth from me a lot but are you understanding the incredible power that lives in you? This power is given to you for a divine purpose! I pray, as God’s children we will take this power and responsibility seriously so that our Father will be honored and glorified!

Acts 1:8

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

During the forty days after Jesus suffered and died He appeared to the Apostles from time to time convincing them He was alive. Here in today’s scripture we read the words spoken by Jesus to His followers. The Apostles and other believers had not yet began ministry because Jesus told them earlier to wait. Before they could go out and do ministry (the will of God) they needed the Spirit of God.

Therefore Jesus said “you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.” Jesus was telling them without the Spirit you will lack what you need to be successful. The same is true for us, when we attempt to do God’s will in our strength and abilities we become tired, discouraged and frustrated. We were never meant to do ministry alone. Did you know that as Jesus began His ministry He spoke these words. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, for He has anointed Me to bring the Good News to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim that the captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free and that the time of the Lord’s favor has come.” My brothers and sisters do you see the parallel between the mission of Jesus and our mission. Just as Jesus needed the Spirit to fulfill His mission we also need it to accomplish ours.

We have been given great power through the Holy Spirit but with it comes incredible responsibility. We are to be His witnesses, telling EVERYONE about Jesus! Telling everyone about the Lord’s love, truth and salvation. The moment the Lord saved you, you became His partner! He gave you everything you need when He gave you His Spirit, YOU LACK NOTHING! Go, share the Good News that Jesus Christ is Lord! He is the Way, the Truth and the Life and no one is going to the Father without Him! Blessings my friends!
