Holy Spirit: God in Us “Day 2”

I closed yesterday’s devotion with a verse found in Galatians 5:16. It tells us, “So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.” I used to think of this verse a little differently. I used to think of my sinful desires as evil, the first things that came to mind would be sexual immorality, a hateful spirit, lying, stealing, unforgiveness. Yes, all of these are part of our human sinful desires. But, our sinful desires can also look good on the outside but the fact is, they are born out of selfishness. They are not for God’s glory but simply for our good. Why is this important to understand?

Today we will read a couple more verses found in Romans 8. The Apostle Paul is giving us some great news concerning prayer. Not only does the Spirit living within us give us assurance of salvation, He helps us to pray correctly! Praise the Lord!

Romans 8:26-27

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. 27 And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

I think a good title for today’s devotion could have been, “who is leading your prayer life?” Take a moment and honestly answer these questions. What does your personal prayer life look like? When you pray do you experience the power and presence of Almighty God? Through your prayers are you seeing God do miracles? Do you even believe that God will listen to your prayers and answer? Prayer is an incredible gift given to us by God. He invites us into His throne room, into the Holy of holies to connect and commune with Him. I assure you that without the Holy Spirit we will miss so much that God has for us.

We have already established that the moment we believe in Jesus we are given the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God Almighty living in us! Therefore He knows ALL things including your weaknesses. So many times we begin praying and the truth is we don’t even know what to pray for. Instead of stopping and being still we continue to speak, rambling before God. Praying according to our lack of understanding or personal desires. But here we are given instructions and an incredible promise. If we let the Spirit do His work, He will pray according to His perfect knowledge. He will pray according to our needs rather than our desires. We will begin to see breakthroughs and miracles. The first breakthrough we will see is harmony with God’s will. What a blessing this would be!

Let me encourage you my friends when you pray, let the Spirit flow! If you attempt to fight or force it you will not experience His power. Get out of the way and focus on Jesus! It is not about you, others or the circumstances it is about Jesus! God already knows what you need and what is best for you therefore give Him a chance to do His perfect work in your life!

Today at Antioch I will continue this study, God in us! I hope that you will join us. Have a blessed day, I am praying for you!!
