“Jesus said it was coming”
Through the Prophet Isaiah God said, “Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call Him Immanuel,
which means ‘God is with us.’” Just as God promised Jesus came into this world!
Thirty three years later Jesus said, But when the Father sends the Advocate (Helper) as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you. Just as Jesus said, the Holy Spirit is given!
My brothers and sisters do not take this powerful truth for granted. When God says something He will make it happen! It may not be in your timing or the way you expect but I will assure you God is FAITHFUL to His Word!!
Acts 2:1-4
On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. 2 Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. 3 Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. 4 And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability.
On the day of Pentecost. Pentecost was held fifty days after Passover. It was also referred to as the Festival of Harvest one of the three major annual festivals for the Jews. It was a time of thanksgiving for the harvested crops. Because it was a major festival for the Jews, they would come to Jerusalem from many other nations.
The believers were all gathered together in one place just as Jesus instructed them. Suddenly it happened, a mighty windstorm and then what looked like flames or tongues of fire. The scripture tells us that everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit. Just as Jesus promised, God sent the helper! The believers began to speak in other languages so that those who were visiting from other countries could understand the Good News Peter was about to proclaim.
In this particular devotion I don’t want to get into the discussion of the gift of tongues. We will talk about it later this month. What I want you to know and trust is God’s faithfulness to His promises! I also want you to see that God’s fulfillment of His promises is for His glory! Of course when God fulfills a promise we as His children are blessed but the primary purpose is for God to be glorified and made known.
If you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ, you have the Holy Spirit living in you. Take a moment and thank God for this wonderful and powerful gift. You are not alone, God is with you and God lives in you!
