“Another Advocate”
Jesus was born into this world as a baby. When He lived here on earth He was one hundred percent God and one hundred percent man. He experienced joy, excitement, love, pain, loss, rejection and death. Therefore He can relate and identify with our lives.
When Jesus was getting closer to His death, He began preparing His followers. They didn’t understand why Jesus had to leave and certainly didn’t understand why He had to die. But He gave them a promise that even though He would leave they would not be left alone.
John 14:16-18
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you. 18 No, I will not abandon you as orphans—I will come to you.
Judas has already betrayed Jesus and left the upper room. This is an extremely important point. Jesus is about to teach and give a promise that is only for those who believe! Judas rejected Christ therefore the promise Jesus is about to give was not for him.
Jesus told His followers; I will be leaving you soon. But I will ask My Father to give you another Advocate who will never leave you. Jesus Christ is Emmanuel, God with us. But the One to come will be God in you and He will NEVER leave you! Jesus also assures them that this Advocate was not for the world (those who do not believe.) He also assures them, you know this Advocate because He lives WITH you. My friends Jesus and the Holy Spirit are one of the same. Jesus lived with His followers and the Holy Spirit lives in Christ’s followers.
We also read that one of the responsibilities of the Holy Spirit is to teach believers ALL TRUTH! The moment you place your trust in Jesus, He gives you the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is Truth and begins teaching you the ways of the Father. We will look deeper into this incredible promise throughout this month.
Today, if you know that you are a child of God. Remember these precious words of Jesus. I will not leave you as an orphan, I will come to you! In God’s amazing grace He has placed within every believer His Spirit so you will never be alone! Glory to God!!
