Emmanuel: The Word of God
I am super excited to share today’s verse with you. This particular verse has truly transformed my life. I remember reading it shortly after Jesus found me and saved me. It not only gave me great comfort but incredible power!
Did you know that no where in the scriptures does it tell us to celebrate the birth of Jesus? I am thankful we do but we should be celebrating the life of Jesus everyday. I think the reason we aren’t told to celebrate Jesus’s birth is that the life of Jesus did not begin in Bethlehem.
Today we read the Words of Jesus, He tells us about His beginnings. Jesus Christ is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End!
John 1:1-5
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
My brothers and sisters, read these words slowly. Let them sink deeply into your heart and mind. Ask the Lord to let you understand them and make them a foundational truth in your life.
In the beginning, these are the same words found in Genesis 1:1. In Genesis we read “in the beginning God.” Here in John 1:1 we read “in the beginning the Word already existed.” There was nothing in the beginning but God, therefore the Word was God! But as we read these verses we can quickly see that the Word was another person of God. It tells us that the Word was with God, He existed with God. So we can conclude that the Word was not something, it was someone! This someone gave life to EVERYTHING, This someone was the light to EVERYONE! This light was so great, darkness would never be able to extinguish it.
My friends this someone was and is Emmanuel, Jesus Christ. When Jesus told His disciples, “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” He was taking them back to the beginning. He is the only true foundation of life. EVERYTHING is built on Him! Jesus, the Word is the same yesterday, today and forever. Everything else will fade away but the Word is Eternal!
Why did I find this so transformational and powerful? Because I now had an identity, purpose and destiny so much greater than my own. Jesus became my Way, Truth and Life, I no longer needed to keep searching. Emmanuel, the greatest gift ever to be given. Stop searching for anything else! Jesus Christ is all you will ever need. Invite Him not only to be your Savior but trust Him as your Lord!
Give thanks to the Lord, for He is GREAT! His faithful love endures FOREVER!!
