“You have been Rescued”
Be strong and courageous, the Lord Jesus has rescued you. You no longer live in darkness, you live in the Lord’s glorious light. You are no longer guilty you have been declared not guilty! You have been forgiven and set free through the mighty blood of Jesus Christ. You are no longer a child of satan, you have been given the right to be a child of Almighty God our Father in heaven.
My friends read this as many times as it takes to sink in. Today we read a prayer spoken and written by the Apostle Paul. He is specifically praying for the believers living in Colosse. Most of these folks were Gentiles separated from God’s presence and promises. But God loved them and called them to Himself. But like so many people who accept the free gift of salvation they continue to be stuck in their past. Today my brothers and sisters I beg you to:
Rest in God’s Presence
Trust in God’s Promises
Walk in God’s Power
Colossians 1:9-14
So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. 10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better. 11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.
I love the passion that the Apostle Paul has for these people. Remember Paul is a Jew, by his own words he tells others he was a Jew of all Jews. He was proud of his heritage and upbringing. Therefore he hated and looked down on anyone else that was not Jewish including these people living in Colosse. But when Paul met Jesus his life dramatically changed. God gave Paul the mission to reveal His love and salvation to the Gentiles.
So we read, we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. Paul had never visited these people, evidently someone else shared the love of Jesus and a church began. Paul simply heard about them and began praying for them. We too should be praying for our brothers and sisters here and around the world. Paul is praying specifically for these people. He wanted them to know that God loves them and sent Jesus to die for them. Through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus they have been given everything they need to live a life that will honor God Almighty! He also wanted them to remember where they came from. They once lived in darkness but Jesus delivered them, they were rescued!
My friends have you placed your trust in Jesus Christ? If you said yes, you have been given EVERYTHING you need to live a life pleasing to your Father in heaven. YOU LACK NOTHING! What is so cool about being a child of God, not only have I been given everything I need but the Spirit living in me teaches and helps me to use it all correctly. I have been rescued so that I can live a life that will glorify my Father in heaven and make Him known!
What is my responsibility?
REST IN GOD’S PRESENCE
TRUST IN GOD’S PROMISES
WALK IN GOD’S POWER
