“Our Great High Priest”
Philippians 2:6-11
Though he was God, He did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; He took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When He appeared in human form, He humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross. 9 Therefore, God elevated Him to the place of highest honor and gave Him the name above all other names, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
No matter how hard I try I could never introduce today’s scripture better than this verse does. Before you read more, please go back and read these verses a few more times. Let them sink deep within your heart, mind and soul. This is the Jesus who gave His life for you and me. Today He is sitting at the right hand side of God Almighty interceding for us! WOW!!! What a Savior, What a friend!!
Hebrews 4:14-16
So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. 15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. 16 So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
Today, at this very moment, if you have placed your faith in Jesus Christ. He is your High Priest, He is interceding for you! What does this mean, why is this so important and exciting? The High Priest would offer the sacrifices for the sins of the people. Jesus Christ died for your sin ONCE AND FOR ALL!! No other sacrifice will ever be needed! The High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies, the very presence of Almighty God. When Jesus died the curtain on the temple tore from top to bottom inviting all who believe into the Holy of Holies. Yes my friends we are invited into the presence of Almighty God our Father in Heaven!
We are told in today’s scripture that Jesus did all of this by His death and resurrection. We are told to hold firmly to what we believe, why? Our belief and trust in Jesus Christ is all we have. He is aware of our weaknesses and He wants to help. He tells us to boldly come into the throne room. It is there we will find mercy, (does anyone need mercy?) It is there we will find help when we need it most, (does anyone need help?) The enemy wants to distract you from this glorious truth because He knows if you hold firmly to it, you are unstoppable!
I want to take a moment and share with you. We are invited to come boldly into the throne room. Do not mistake boldness as arrogance! Boldness is having confidence in the finished work of Jesus. Jesus humbled Himself and gave His life on the cross. You and I are nothing without Jesus Christ, but in and through Jesus we can do ALL things. He will give us the strength and courage to rest, trust and walk in His Power!
Today is the day of salvation, accept the invitation to enter the throne room of God Almighty. Sit at His feet, rest, listen and let Him fill you, heal you and be your strength! Hold firmly to His truth and receive all the help you need. Now you are ready to face this world with confidence, take every opportunity to love and serve those God has placed in your life! Have an awesome day as you trust in the Lord!
